Protoplast (The Fall of Man)

This song had a challenging beginning, as it was originally intended to be sung in Spanish. However, the melodic part didn’t quite convince us because it didn’t fit phonetically, which led to it being rewritten in English. We revisited the biblical figure of Eve in the sense of the genesis of the inherent imperfection of being human. However, nowadays, with the recurring theme of gender fluidity and the ontological question of “the masculine” and “the feminine,” I decided to address this human imperfection from a sexless entity that questions the canonization of masculine or feminine power and is simply pondering its return to Eden. Miguel gave it the title after hearing my explanation, as “Protoplast” is used in religious theory to refer to characters from the myths of primordial humans within creation myths.

The music and melody lean towards indie rock, and as part of our personal style, string arrangements and elements of chamber music are present in the song. The rhythmic base has a special groove that contrasts with what we’ve released previously. Synthesizers also seem to be a basic element of our sound, but they set aside their robotic nature and add textures to the music.
