This is a vignette inspired by the story of a child who feels alienated in a society that isn’t prepared for him. This story of alienation was inspired by a real experience; that child made me see myself in the mirror of the expatriate, without roots or anything that connected him to others, who finds a way to liberate himself and be happy in another similar outcast. The lyrics are childish, direct, and honest, recalling a concrete memory, a conversation I had with him and his brutal need to be who he is.
Just like the lyrics, the music begins with a natural, childlike sadness, nostalgic and simple, gradually building up to a conversation that pauses the story and releases the tension. The music shifts away from the nostalgic groove and opens up with a powerful brass and string section, accompanied by the phrase “I’m flying.” Both the music and lyrics provide a sense of openness and freedom, leaving behind the tension felt in the first part.
